  Workflow

As digital cinematography becomes more widely-accepted, designing high-resolution cameras and associated data storage will simply not be enough. The key issue is workflow: Film-based production has evolved over 100 years, and its workflow is smooth, efficient and well-understood. If conventional film is to be replaced, this new way of working must be at least as good and preferably better.

A Complete System

Codex provides a complete system for the acquisition, storage, management and access of all digital production material and metadata from camera to post-production. With Codex, it is possible to instantly preview and review scene setups and recorded takes whilst on-set. Immediate decisions can be made regarding adjustments and retakes, and with Codex capable of replaying uncompressed 4:4:4 HD data, cinematographers can get an exact idea of how their 'digital negative' will look, minimising potential lighting, exposure, colour and focus problems.

Close up of Codex screenCodex also features a fully-specified shot database for the storage and association of metadata with captured images and sound. All shots recorded on the system can be viewed in terms of time, date or scene/take number, and optionally, additional data about each shot (such as lens information, shot description, script notes etc.) can be added to each shot during or after recording, either from the system itself, or via a remote interface running on a laptop computer or handheld PDA.

By utilising industry-standard metadata exchange formats such as XML, this means that Codex has the ability to capture, manage and export everything that matters during a film shoot - if it can be recorded, Codex can store it.

This association of picture data, sound data and shot information makes Codex a powerful, yet flexible workflow system, designed to integrate seamlessly into existing production and post-production environments.
