TRAINING PROGRAMMES

Industry professionals can now be trained by Codex to meet the increasing demands for file-based workflows on productions worldwide. These training programmes will equip you with the knowledge and expertise to operate Codex systems either on-set, near-set, or as the bridge between production and post production.

Codex Trained Digital Imaging Technician/2nd Assistant Camera (CDX-TP-1)


This programme is focussed on the Onboard recorder. Upon completion of the programme the candidate will be trained in:
  • An overview of the Codex Onboard Recorder
  • Mounting options
  • Setting up and operating the Codex Onboard Recorder to record HD, Stereo 3D, and ARRIRAW (including correct cabling and software settings)
  • Offspeed/variframe recording
  • Wavelet compressed recording
  • On set playback from the recorder as a technical gate check
  • The importance of accurate and correct metadata capture on set
  • How to set shot and roll naming to deliver correct and useful metadata in to post production in accordance with the agreed naming conventions for a project
  • How the Codex Onboard should be configured for correct metadata capture when shooting ARRIRAW alongside SxS > ProRes on ARRI Alexa (including SDI triggering)
  • How the Codex Onboard should be configured for correct metadata capture when shooting Stereo 3D (stereo channel IDs and RAID-0 Datapack formatting)
  • Networking to the Codex Onboard to allow control from the remote UI
  • Loading of LUT files
  • Getting system logs
  • Updating software
  • Configuring the Codex Onboard to capture CDL Data on set
  • Troubleshooting the Codex Onboard on set

Pre-requisites

CDX-TP-1: Delegates must have prior experience of professional digital cameras and digital image recording.

Codex Trained Digital Lab Technician/Data Wrangler (CDX-TP-2)


This program is focussed on the Transfer Station for Mac OS X. Upon completion of the programme the candidate will be trained in:
  • Workflow overviews using the Codex Transfer Station for Mac OS X
  • Metadata checking and editing procedures for material delivered from on set, encompassing standard metadata (shot/roll names) and workflow specific metadata (WB/EI for ARRIRAW, custom Looks, etc.)
  • Generating reports and ALEs for material
  • How the Codex Virtual File System (VFS) works
  • Preset VFS configurations for common file types
  • Use of advanced VFS features (file naming, filtering, multi-LUT selector, burn-ins)
  • Colour pipelines for deliverables (CDL, 3D LUTs, dynamic LUT application)
  • Using LTFS backup tools to produce secure, verified data archives
  • Using the offload utility to produce secure backups
  • Clearing of material from Datapacks to be sent back to set after verification of backups
  • Loading of LUT/Burn-In/configuration files
  • Getting system logs
  • Updating software
  • Troubleshooting the Transfer Station for Mac OS X

This program is focussed on the Digital Lab. Upon completion of the programme the candidate will be trained in:
  • Workflow overviews using the Codex Digital Lab
  • Metadata checking and editing procedures for material delivered from on set, encompassing standard metadata (shot/roll names) and workflow specific metadata (WB/EI for ARRIRAW, custom Looks, etc.)
  • Generating reports and ALEs for material
  • The data cloning process to produce secure backups on the Digital Lab
  • How the Codex Virtual File System (VFS) works
  • Preset VFS configurations for common file types
  • Use of advanced VFS features (file naming, filtering, multi-LUT selector, burn-ins)
  • Colour pipelines for deliverables (CDL, 3D LUTs, dynamic LUT application)
  • Using LTO backup tools to produce secure, verified data archives
  • Using the offload utility to produce secure backups
  • Clearing of material from Datapacks to be sent back to set after verification of backups
  • Navigating the Linux command line and use of basic commands
  • Networking to the Digital Lab to allow control from the remote UI
  • Loading of LUT/Burn-In/configuration files
  • Getting system logs
  • Updating software
  • Troubleshooting the Digital Lab
